Onto day three of our festival when some of the heavy hitters come out and unfortunately some at the same time. Whatever you do on Sunday and I say this with all sincerity and warning, do NOT see Moon Alice. You’re there and you realize the music is terrible and then the scene just devolves into a bunch of dirty hippies on acid flailing around and then you’re surrounded. Really watching Moon Alice is akin to being chased by Zombies on The Walking Dead. You’ve been warned.
Glen Hansard – 2:20 – Rooster Stage
Glen Hansard and Marketa Iglova had a great thing going when they made music as the Swell Season. It was such a cool little folksy band, instantly lovable. Then Hansard went solo and the world realized he was pretty great on his own too.
Son Volt – 2:45 – Arrow Stage
Jay Farrar was always the one in Uncle Tupelo that I thought had the best voice. It was fitting that when Uncle Tupelo ended Jay Farrar stayed the alt-country course with Son Volt and Jeff Tweedy went more into the rock genre. They’re quite talented so it’ll be interesting to see them live for the first time.
Nick Lowe – 3:35 – Rooster Stage
Lowe is an old school kinda crooner. He’s been around forever, but in a similar fashion to Leonard Cohen he’s only getting better with age.
Dwight Yoakam – 3:10 – Towers of Gold Stage
This country throwback is one of the best around. The comparisons to him and Buck Owens’ style are endless and I’m not writing a feature about that so we’ll save it. Nevertheless it is a bit disconcerting to see Yoakam have to compete with Son Volt and Nick Lowe. Depending on your tastes Yoakam may be the one you want to see most.
Patti Smith – 5:00 – Towers of Gold Stage
If you’re a rock n’ roll fan at all this is the stage you will be at to see Patti Smith try and relive the good ole days. This rock legend will be the most anticipated act of the entire weekend. Mark my words.
