Coming out sounding like Fleetwood Mac and Pat Benatar all in one is no small feat, but Nicki Bluhm makes is sound effortless. She has a new album coming out and from the sound of these first two songs it’s gonna be great. It has that trademarked Grambler bluesy country sound on “Little Too Late” that we’ve all become accustomed to. There is a new sound too, that we’re not used to and that’s where the Fleetwood Mac aspects come in. “Ravenous” is vintage Stevie Nicks with that Lindsey Buckingham guitar sound in the background. This is straight out of the coke fueled ’70’s with excess, perfect lyrics and gypsy magic permeating the ether. If the Van Sessions got Nicki Bluhm and her talented Gramblers an audience this gets them a legion. These songs, especially “Ravenous” are brilliant examples of why a good marketing plan is only part of it, you have to back it up with a great sound and Bluhm does exactly that.
